Please read the following expectations and standards for dissertation research before asking me to serve in your dissertation committee. Note: I usually do not exist outside class advice on the analysis for dissertations, unless I am a member of the dissertation committee.

If you ask me to serve as a member of your dissertation committee:

• You have already talked to your dissertation chair on the committee membership, and your chairman should have already approved by you that you ask me to serve in your committee.
• You are asked to meet with me to discuss your dissertation project from a commitment from my part.
• I can normally return feedback on dissertation research products in 2-3 weeks.
• I also expect 2-3 weeks lead time to arrange products in the run-up to an experiment, a general oral examination, a proposal seat, or a dissertation defense.

as content expert:

• If there is applicable course work in the content area, you should take this course work, if possible, if possible, if possible (eg lessons and learning focus requests should have taken Certificate in College / University Teaching Courses).
• areas where I serves comfortable as a content expert for a dissertation is as follows: women in higher education, stem in higher education, critical pedagogy, curriculum design, scholarship and learning (SOTL)
If you submit your dissertation research to publish, it is expected to offer me a co-authorship of all the resulting manuscripts on which I invested significant work.
• I will comment primarily on chapters 1, 2 and 5 (or their equivalents) of their dissertation.

If you ask me to choose your dissertation:

as higher education Ph.D. Student:

• You should have extensive research experience with me through a combination of course work, out-of-class research experience and / or scientific assistance ships.
• Your dissertation should be on a topic for which I am an expert for the content area (see above for a list of content areas where I can serve comfortable).
• You should be familiar with one to two-year-old timeline for the conclusion of the dissertation and plan to publish your work. It is expected that you offer CO authorship at all the resulting manuscripts.
If I stove your dissertation committee, and you will not decide to pursue the publication of your dissertation study, I can continue preparing a manuscript based on the study on which you are invited to serve as an author or co-author . It is expected that you are expected to make a dissertation agreement that contains the specific dissertation expectations and detects a preliminary timeline for completion.
• If I did not be your advisor when you have entered the program, your consultant must agree to change the committee structure before . You approach me about the dissertation committee.
• You must advise you before approaching the adoption of faculty members to serve as committee members.
• I can normally provide feedback on dissertation-related products within 2-3 weeks.
• I will provide a comprehensive feedback for all parts of your dissertation, and you will respond all feedback.
• I expect a regular communication. With a minimum, I should hear from you once a month.
• I have to get a complete design of your dissertation on the first day of the semester you want to complete.

as a student outside higher education Ph.D. Program:

• I'm usually unable to chair the chairman outside higher education Ph.D. Program.
If you have a dissertation chair or adviser who has advised you to ask me to the chair / co-chair of the committee, that may be possible. All criteria listed above would apply, pending by the agreement between them, their in-program chair / consultant and me.

My approach to dissertation consultancy / chairman:

The choice of a dissertation advisor is an important and difficult decision, and my consulting approach is not the only one (or even the best) approach to the investigation consultation. Nevertheless, it is the approach I've chosen, and it's the best thing you know what to expect. If you first enroll in the dissertation times, we have a weekly meeting throughout the semester. We will not always use this time to meet, but I expect we both will reserve this time when a meeting is required. At least once we meet at least once a month personally or about zoom to discuss their dissertation, progress, advice and job search (if applicable). Second, they will participate in a write group with my doctoral advisers, which are also in the dissertation letter (proposal, data collection / analysis and defense). In this writing group you will meet at least twice a month to check that and give the feedback for the work of the other. I have found that groups write to be valuable to get the feedback of their designs before they are looking at me to keep their letter on the track and avoid isolation that can be part of the dissertation process.
